Who we are
The Edge of Meaning (“TEOM”, “we”, “us”) is a podcast and publishing project hosted by Dr. Jocelyn Braun.
For the purposes of UK data protection law, the data controller is Dr. Jocelyn Braun, trading as The Edge of Meaning.

The Edge of Meaning is operated by Dr. Jocelyn Braun as a sole trader. We do not operate from business premises, so we ask that all correspondence about this policy, or about your personal information, is sent by email. We will provide a postal address on request.
What this policy covers
This policy explains what personal information we collect through theedgeofmeaning.com, why we collect it, what we do with it, and what rights you have.
It does not cover the third-party platforms where our episodes are hosted and distributed — Acast, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube and others. Those services collect their own listener data under their own privacy policies, as controllers in their own right, and we have no control over that.
Information we collect
When you register your interest or join the community. Through our sign-up form we collect your name, your email address, and anything else you choose to tell us in a free-text field — for example, when pitching yourself as a guest.
When you contact us directly. If you email us, we hold your email address and the contents of your message.
When you visit the website. Our website is built and hosted on Framer. Framer’s built-in analytics do not use cookies and do not collect personal data about individual visitors — visitor counts are calculated from a daily-rotating, non-reversible hash. We do not use Google Analytics, advertising pixels or similar tracking tools.
We do not collect special category data, and we do not ask for it. Please do not include sensitive personal information in free-text fields.
Why we use your information, and our lawful basis
To send you episode announcements, notes and occasional event invitations, so you receive what you signed up for. Our lawful basis is consent.
To reply to your message or guest pitch, so we can respond to an enquiry you initiated. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests.
To consider you as a potential guest, so we can plan and produce the show. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests.
To keep the website running and secure, so we can operate the site. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests.
To keep records of consent, so we can demonstrate compliance. Our lawful basis is legal obligation.
Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time — every email includes an unsubscribe link, or you can email us. Withdrawing consent does not affect anything we did before you withdrew it.
Where we rely on legitimate interests, we have considered whether our interest is outweighed by your rights. You can object to this at any time.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your information, and we do not share it for anyone else’s marketing.
We use the following service providers, who process personal data on our behalf:
Framer (Framer B.V.) — website hosting. Based in the Netherlands. Some infrastructure sits outside the EEA, under approved safeguards.
Tally (Tally BV) — sign-up and contact forms. Based in Belgium. Form data is stored within the EU.
Google Workspace — email and file storage. Based in the United States, under the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
Each is bound to process data only on our instructions. We may also disclose information where we are legally required to do so.
International transfers
Our website host and form provider are based in the European Union. Our email provider, Google, is based in the United States.
Where personal data is transferred outside the UK, we rely on the UK International Data Transfer Addendum to the Standard Contractual Clauses, the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, or another safeguard approved under UK data protection law.
How long we keep it
Community and mailing list subscribers — until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove you, plus 12 months so we can honour that request.
Email correspondence — 24 months from our last contact with you.
Guest pitches we do not take forward — 12 months.
Guest records relating to published episodes — for as long as the episode remains published.
Financial and business records — 6 years, to meet HMRC requirements.
We keep personal information only for as long as we need it. There is no fixed legal retention period for marketing or mailing list data — the law requires us to justify however long we keep it, and to delete it when it is no longer needed.
Cookies
We do not use non-essential cookies on this website.
Our site is built on Framer, whose built-in analytics operate without cookies. We do not run Google Analytics, advertising pixels or third-party tracking scripts. For that reason, no cookie consent banner is shown.
Cookies that are strictly necessary for the website to function may be set. These do not require consent under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations.
If we later add anything that sets non-essential cookies — embedded video players, analytics tools or similar — we will add a consent banner and update this policy before doing so.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
Access the personal information we hold about you
Rectify anything inaccurate or incomplete
Erase your information in certain circumstances
Restrict how we use it
Object to processing based on legitimate interests, and to direct marketing at any time
Portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format
Withdraw consent at any time where consent is our basis

We would appreciate the chance to address your concern first, but you are entitled to go to the ICO directly.
Children
The Edge of Meaning is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us their information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last revised. If we make a material change to how we use your information, we will tell subscribers by email.
